General disclaimer
Information on DIYDecorLab is published in good faith for general DIY decor experiments with honest results and educational purposes. We make no representation or warranty of any kind, express or implied, that the site is complete, accurate, reliable or fit for any particular purpose. Any reliance you place on such material is strictly at your own risk.
The safety points that matter here
- Test before you sand: paint before 1978 (US) or 1992 (UK/EU) may contain lead, and textured coatings or artex may contain asbestos. Identify first, then work wet with a rated mask, or stop and call a licensed contractor
- Solvents, strippers, spray finishes and adhesives need cross-ventilation, gloves and eye protection; never mix chemicals
- Solvent-soaked rags can self-heat and ignite – dry them flat outdoors before disposal
- Craft knives, saws and rotary tools: clamp the work, cut away from the body, keep blades sharp
- Wall anchors and adhesive strips are load-rated; a mirror that holds on foam tape today can fall tomorrow – use studs or rated fixings
Not professional advice
We are not qualified interior designers, architects, electricians, plumbers, structural engineers, environmental health officers, asbestos assessors or lawyers. Nothing here replaces inspection or advice from the appropriate professional, and work needing a permit, a certified tradesperson or building-control sign-off must be handled that way.
Tenants, leases and building rules
What you may alter in a rented or managed property is a contractual and legal question. Deposit schemes, landlords, co-ownership rules and conservation or listed-property restrictions can make a cosmetic change unlawful without consent. We do not know your agreement.
Results, products, links and advertising
Cure times, coverage, adhesion and colour depend on substrate, temperature and humidity. Product availability and formulation differ by country – read the label of what you actually bought. Prices and availability are dated at publication and change. Some links are affiliate links and the site shows third-party advertising; sponsored work is labelled. None of it affects what we publish.
